Canary Islands
Located just off the north-west coast of Africa, the volcanic Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago. When first visited by the ancient Romans, they found a large dog population and so named them Insula Canaria meaning Island of the Dogs. Most of these shots were taken on Fuerteventura with some from Lanzarote.

A large population of Barbary ground squirrels (often mistaken for chipmunks) can be found on Fuerteventura, originally introduced from Africa as a pet in the 1960s.
